A Summary of the Life of
Hunter Bird
(The Story You Won't Find on My Resume)
(High School Comedy Sportz League 2006) | I'm a producer/performer/writer/director/everything else kid of guy from the Los Angeles area of California. And I'm passionate about presenting theatre in all its forms.
It's interesting: as a child, I mildly enjoyed theater. Ever
since being exposed to the LA company of Lion King (thanks Mom
and Dad), I found theater to be something that I enjoyed. Not loved, but
enjoyed.
And then my younger brother, Cameron, began to get involved in
musical theater. Suddenly, I HATED musical theater. At the age of fourteen,
when my grandmother asked me if I had any interest to be involved
in theater, I responded with a simple: "Ummm......NO!" I assume this hatred
towards theater derived from the strange people my brother hung out with, and
the overplaying of the Big River soundtrack in our car ("Do Ya Wanna Go
to Heaven" still gives me a headache).
So, Cameron had his theater, and I
had gymnastics. Yes, gymnastics. For eleven years, I committed myself to one of
the hardest sports to ever exist. I eventually came to get my first job teaching
at my gym. But, that's a story in itself.
ANYWAY, two years after my
brother performed in Big River, the strangest thing happened. I saw a
production of Cabaret at our rival high school. And, for some unknown
reason, I remember walking out of the theater and saying, "I can do this." So,
one thing led to another, and I ended up doing my first two musicals, Bye
Bye Birdie and 42nd Street, that summer. From there, my
passion for musical theater just grew and grew.
Since then, I have
devoted all of my high school years to the pursuit of theater. I've tried to
immerse myself in everything: from ASCAP's LA New Musical Theater Festival to
school productions.
I'm attending the Ray Bolger Musical Theatre program at UCLA to earn my BA in Theatre. The program encompasses training in all areas. I'm also an member of the original team for the FESTIVAL OF NEW AMERIAN MUSICALS, and plan to continue working on that for a while. I'm the Co-Founder and Artistic Director of Act III Theatre Ensemble at UCLA. I'm a proud, hardworking Southern Califoria theatre kid. And I love doing what I love! |
